We are aiming to plant 500 trees of 20 different varieties, to recreate English native woodland. The trees will also add colour and variety to the wood, providing fruits and berries for the birds. It is a great event for all the family, remember to bring your spade.
Please dress warmly and comfortably and bring snacks and drinks. We will be offering a warm soup for lunch at 1pm so bring a cup/bowl and spoon. Teas and Coffees will be served all day.
Meeting Point: Carpenter’s Hut, up the short track from Keeper’s Gate on Park Lane, Laughton. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Hc99ca7wfLBKizHx5
We look forward to seeing you!
Come and celebrate 10 years of our wonderful ancient woodland with us!
A decade of community, care, and connection with the forest; we come together to celebrate a living tradition where people support nature, build community, and reconnect with the woodland. This gathering invites everyone to take part in the next chapter of Laughton Greenwood’s story, and thank those who have been involved up until this point.
This year, we welcome volunteers from 10-12. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the group, whether through monthly conservation sessions, helping run children’s activities, surveying the flora and fauna, or simply bringing energy, the people make our woods thrive.
We will host walks, talks, children’s activities, woodland art and crafts, and more. Amongst all of us, we hope to complete “the world’s largest woodland collage”! We are also lucky enough to have Marina Robb giving a talk on how NHS practitioners can use the environment and local nature spaces in their practice.
Laughton Greenwood has a rich history as a community-led woodland. What began as a volunteer effort to restore a neglected patch of forest has become a vibrant green space full of wildlife, learning, and nature-based activities. Over the years volunteers have created paths and bridges
while supporting biodiversity through conservation work. Achievements include the planting of around 2000 native tree species and, this year, the renovation of an ancient pond that is vital for local wildlife.
The birthday gathering celebrates the hard work of everyone involved and reminds us what people can achieve together. If you love nature and would like to help out, newcomers are warmly welcomed. No experience or specialist knowledge is needed. Come along, learn what it’s all about,
and help keep Laughton Greenwood growing strong!
